If you are looking for hot yoga in San Diego County, the answer is that the choice comes down to three things: the style of class, how the room is heated, and which part of the county you will actually drive to. Two studios can both say "hot yoga" and offer very different classes, so the useful comparison is the class list, not the label.
Most of the studios below sit along the coast in North County, where hot yoga is clustered. Encinitas and Oceanside alone have several, and they differ more than you might expect. Some run set sequences at a fixed temperature, some run flowing vinyasa, and some mix heated rooms with unheated ones. The sections below group them by area so you can start with the drive.
What "hot yoga" can mean
A few terms come up in the listings, and it helps to know them before you pick.
- 26+2 is a fixed sequence of 26 postures and two breathing exercises, practiced in the same order each class. You will see it written "Hot 26+2" or "Hot 26".
- Bikram-style classes are the same family of set sequence, usually offered in 60 and 75 minute versions.
- Hot vinyasa links postures with the breath and changes from class to class.
- Infrared heat warms the room with infrared panels rather than a conventional heater. Several studios use it and say so in their listings.
- Unheated and warm classes run alongside the hot ones at some studios, which is handy if you are going with someone who wants a cooler room.
Ask any studio what temperature the room runs at and how long a class is. Those two answers tell you more than the schedule page does.
Encinitas and Del Mar
Encinitas has the most choice in one place, and the studios here take quite different approaches.
The Hot Room has two practice rooms and runs classes at roughly 101 to 107 degrees. Its schedule includes Bikram 60 and 75, Hot Vinyasa and Hot Room Fusion, plus private sessions. It also has a 45-minute Weights and Bands class. Its advanced Bikram Music class is practiced to music without verbal cues, and students need the studio's permission to join.
GOOD yoga is on Coast Highway 101, a short walk from the beach and downtown, with showers and lockers. Classes are heated and unheated, and the list includes a 105-degree Hot 26+2, Hot Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Alignment.
Yoga Tropics is a family-owned studio on 2nd Street that opened in 2006. The schedule mixes Bikram-style hot yoga, power vinyasa, Hot Yoga 60 and a shorter Hot Yoga 45. It has a second practice space on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach, which is useful if you live in the city, though this post describes the Encinitas studio.
A little south, The Yoga Barre is a woman-owned studio on the top level of Del Mar Plaza. It offers heated and non-heated yoga, music-driven barre, Barre Fusion with weights and bands, and meditation, so it suits you if you want yoga and barre under one roof.
Oceanside and Carlsbad
Oceanside has three hot studios that each do something different.
Fire & Flow Hot Yoga keeps its rooms between 102 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Classes include Fire Flow, Fire 26, Fire Sculpt and Fire Flow Pump. The studio also has a private infrared sauna and cold plunge room and onsite showers.
Yoga Wild is an infrared-heated studio a few blocks from the beach. Its schedule has Hot 26, Hot Vinyasa, Wild Flow, restorative and yin, plus Inferno Hot Pilates, an interval class set to loud music under club lighting.
Oside Power Yoga runs both infrared-heated and unheated classes for all levels, including Baptiste Power Yoga, Vinyasa and 26+2, along with Pilates and meditation. Monthly extras include candlelight yoga on the second Sunday and yin with a sound bath on the fourth.
In Carlsbad, Peace Love And Yoga uses two rooms, one heated and one unheated. The schedule covers hot flow and hot vinyasa, warm and unheated yoga, Pilates, aerial yoga, and restorative and yin, with kids' classes and childcare listed too. If you want to compare more options in either city, the Oceanside and Carlsbad pages list every studio.
Vista and the South Bay
Not every hot yoga option is a yoga studio. Dimensional Fitness Concepts in Vista is a private, appointment-only training studio that offers infrared hot yoga and unheated yoga alongside individual and team training, breathwork and an infrared sauna. NXPT Fitness in Chula Vista is a group training studio whose class list includes hot yoga next to circuits, bootcamp, spin and HYROX classes, which suits you if you want yoga as one part of a mixed week.
City of San Diego and East County
In Ocean Beach, Indie Yoga calls itself OB's original heated yoga studio and has been in the neighborhood since 2011. Classes include heated Vinyasa, Hot Hatha Fusion and Yin, and showers and mat rentals are available.
In Normal Heights, Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga offers hot yoga within a wider mix that includes power flow, restorative and yin, meditation and sound sessions.
Out in East County, The Balanced Yogi is a family-run studio on Magnolia Avenue in Santee that serves Santee, Lakeside and El Cajon. It offers hot and non-heated Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin and sculpt, plus a beginners series.
How to choose
- Pick the style first. If you want the same sequence every time, look for 26+2 or Bikram-style classes. If you want variety, look for vinyasa or flow.
- Check what happens around the class. Showers, lockers and mat rentals are listed for some studios and not others. Ask if it matters to you.
- Ask about a first visit. Studios set their own rules for new students, so ask what to bring and how to book.
- Be realistic about the drive. A studio ten minutes away gets used. One across the county tends not to.
