HYROX is an indoor race with one fixed format: you run 1 km, do one workout station, and repeat that eight times. If you're looking for HYROX training in San Diego, more than a dozen independent gyms in the county say they coach for it, and most of them are in North County. Oceanside alone has three.
The race is also coming here. The organizer's calendar lists HYROX San Diego at the San Diego Convention Center on Harbor Drive from May 13 to 16, 2027. The same race calendar shows a race in Anaheim in December 2026 if you want one sooner. Check those pages for ticket sales and any changes.
What a HYROX race is
Every HYROX event uses the same format, which is why times can be compared from one city to the next. According to the organizer's race format page, the eight stations come in this order, each one after a 1 km run:
- SkiErg, 1,000 m
- Sled push, 50 m
- Sled pull, 50 m
- Burpee broad jumps, 80 m
- Rowing, 1,000 m
- Farmers carry, 200 m
- Sandbag lunges, 100 m
- Wall balls, 100 reps
That adds up to 8 km of running with eight stations in between. You don't have to do it alone or at the heaviest weights. The divisions are:
- Open: the standard race, done solo.
- Pro: the same course with heavier weights, for experienced racers.
- Doubles: two people run together and split the work at each station however they like.
- Relay: a team of four shares the runs and stations between them.
Because the order never changes, training for it is fairly simple to describe: a lot of running, practice on each of the eight movements, and sessions that put the two together. That last part is where a gym with the equipment and the floor space comes in.
Where to find HYROX training in San Diego County
Every gym below says in its own listing that it offers HYROX classes or preparation. They are grouped by region, so start with the ones you'd actually drive to.
North County Coastal
- MROC Training in Oceanside is a veteran-owned hybrid gym with coach-led, capped classes that combine strength, conditioning and running. It trains people for HYROX, DEKA, Spartan and Tough Mudder events, and says it was North County's first HYROX-affiliated gym.
- OMODE Training House on Oceanside Boulevard runs coached strength, endurance and HYROX preparation classes, takes one-day drop-ins, and hosted a full HYROX simulation in August 2026.
- Oceanside CrossFit has HYROX on its list next to CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting, with open gym hours and 24-hour access.
- CrossFit FLxR in Carlsbad offers HYROX training along with CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting, and is beginner-friendly.
- Stratum Fitness in Solana Beach hosts a HYROX training club. Its group classes typically have six to twelve people.
North County Inland
Vista, San Marcos and Escondido are strung along Highway 78, east of Oceanside.
- CrossFit Trifecta in Vista offers HYROX training along with CrossFit, personal training and open gym time.
- North County Fitness & Performance, also in Vista, includes HYROX and DEKA in its programming and opens at 4 a.m. on weekdays.
- MOA Fitness in San Marcos is a strength and conditioning gym with a HYROX preparation class on its schedule, plus open gym.

City of San Diego
IHT Factor on Sixth Avenue downtown is an official HYROX Training Club aimed at athletes preparing for HYROX and other endurance events. It is built around intermittent hypoxic training, a method that simulates altitude during workouts. Both it and the Convention Center, where the May race is listed, are downtown.
East County
CrossFit Kivnon in La Mesa announced in August 2026 that it had become an official HYROX Training Club. It also runs a Saturday beginner class and scales workouts to each person's level.
South Bay
- NXPT Fitness in Chula Vista is a HYROX affiliate with weekly HYROX classes and a full simulation every month.
- RevBody, also in Chula Vista, keeps its small-group classes to 25 people and has a HYROX-specific hybrid class on the schedule.
If you'd rather work one-on-one, Ali Lany is a performance coach in Carlsbad who trains for triathlon and HYROX events herself and also coaches online.
How to pick a gym for race prep
The listings tell you who offers HYROX work, not how each gym runs it. A few questions on a visit or a phone call sort that out:
- Is there a dedicated HYROX class, or is it part of the regular programming? Both can work. A dedicated class usually means more time on the eight stations.
- Do you run full simulations? Doing all eight runs and stations in one session is the closest thing to race day. OMODE Training House and NXPT Fitness both mention simulations in their listings.
- Where do you run? Ask whether the 1 km runs happen outside, on treadmills or on a loop inside the gym.
- Can I try a class first? Several of the gyms above mention drop-ins or a free first class. Ask the others.
- Which division are most members training for? If you want a Doubles partner or a Relay team, a gym where others are signing up makes that easier.
If you're new to this kind of training, say so before your first class. Several of these listings say outright that the gym welcomes beginners or adjusts workouts to your level.
More places to look
The full list of affiliates and hybrid gyms is on the CrossFit and HYROX page, with separate pages for Oceanside and the city of San Diego. A CrossFit gym whose listing doesn't mention HYROX may still have the rowers, sleds and wall balls the race uses, so it's worth asking one near you.
