Cold plunge and sauna studios in San Diego County come in three kinds. Some rent you a private suite with a sauna and a plunge to yourself. Some put a group through a shared sauna and plunge together. Others run a timed circuit that adds stations such as red light and compression boots. Which one you want decides where you go more than the neighborhood does.
By area, the directory's studios cluster in Carlsbad, Encinitas and Solana Beach on the north coast, and in the Midway District, Liberty Station and La Jolla in the city. East County has an infrared sauna lounge in La Mesa, and the South Bay has a plunge studio in Eastlake. North County Inland is the thinnest region, so from Poway or Rancho Bernardo expect a drive.
How cold plunge and sauna studios in San Diego County differ
Four things separate one studio from the next.
- Private or shared. A private suite is booked for you, or for you and a friend. A shared room means other people are in the sauna and the plunge with you, often as part of a class or an event.
- Sauna type. An infrared sauna uses electric panels, usually in a small cabin. A traditional sauna heats the room with a stove and rocks. A steam sauna fills the room with steam. Listings name the type, so check before you book if you care which one you get.
- How long. Sessions are booked by the block. Two North County studios below list fifty minutes. Where a listing gives no length, ask.
- Single visit or membership. Some studios sell memberships for regular visits, one is walk-in, and others book by scheduled session. If you only want to try it once, ask whether a single session is possible before you sign up for anything.
What to bring is simple: a swimsuit, sandals and a water bottle. None of the listings below say whether towels are provided, so ask when you book.
North County Coastal
- Calor Sauna Studios in Carlsbad Village is women-owned and fully private. It has three private infrared sauna rooms and one room that combines a sauna and a cold plunge, so that is the room to ask for if you want both. Sessions last fifty minutes, and you can add a friend to your reservation.
- Club House Enc on Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas runs fifty-minute self-guided sessions. You rotate through a cold plunge, an infrared sauna, red light, Normatec compression boots and a vibration plate, with space for stretching and breathwork. It offers memberships and private bookings for groups.
- Pure Infrared Sauna Studio in Solana Beach offers infrared sauna, cold plunge, red light, salt sessions and compression by scheduled session. It has a second location in Bankers Hill, which is the one to use if you live in the city.
Breathe Degrees also has a Carlsbad location. Its directory listing is for Liberty Station, so it is described below.
North County Inland
The directory has no dedicated sauna and cold plunge studio in this region. The closest fit is Light Therapy San Diego on World Trade Drive, which serves Carmel Mountain Ranch, Poway and Penasquitos. Its main service is full-body light sessions, and it recently added a cold plunge in a private room. The listing mentions no sauna.
A few fitness studios in Poway and Rancho Bernardo have a sauna and a cold plunge alongside their classes, which is worth knowing if you already train at one. Otherwise the drive is west to Solana Beach or south into the city.
City of San Diego
Midway District and Liberty Station
Three studios sit close together here, and between them you can book private or shared.
- Conscious Body Recovery is a private contrast studio inside Self Made Training Facility near the Sports Arena. Each suite is fully private, with its own shower and adjustable lighting and scent, and pairs an infrared sauna with a cold plunge.
- The Recovery Room SD is inside Thrive Fitness Club. It has a 40-degree cold plunge, a private infrared sauna where you pick your own music, compression boots, and massage and stretching areas. It takes bookings online.
- Breathe Degrees at Liberty Station is the shared option. It is built around a communal cold plunge, a stadium-style sauna and guided breathwork and yoga, and it hosts recurring evening events such as Breathe After Dark.
La Jolla
- Soul Plunge on Girard Avenue combines yoga and breathwork with a cold plunge, an infrared sauna and red light. Go here if you want a class and a plunge in one visit.
- R3 Recover and Wellness takes you through compression, infrared sauna, cold and hot plunges and red light in a guided sequence. Go here if you would rather be led through the order than work it out yourself.
Kearny Mesa
Aqua Day Spa on Convoy Street is a different kind of place: a traditional Korean day spa with red-clay rooms, a hot jacuzzi and a cold pool, plus body scrubs. It operates as a walk-in business, so no reservation is needed to try alternating hot and cold.
East County and South Bay
- Drippin Detox on La Mesa Boulevard is a lounge with private suites for infrared sauna with red light, plus salt sessions and compression. It opened in 2026 and sells memberships for repeat visits. The listing mentions no cold plunge.
- Tribe Cold Plunge in Eastlake, Chula Vista, is veteran-owned and offers cold plunges, a steam sauna and compression sessions. On the first Saturday of each month it opens complimentary plunges to people who serve their communities, such as service members and first responders.
Find a studio near you
Most of the studios above, and others that didn't fit here, are on the recovery and cold plunge page. You can narrow it to the City of San Diego or La Jolla, or start from an area page: Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, the Midway District, La Mesa or Chula Vista. Confirm session lengths and how to book with the studio before you go.
