If you want to train in Chula Vista, you have more choice than the map suggests. The city has strength gyms, CrossFit and HYROX classes, boxing and martial arts academies, Pilates and yoga studios, private training rooms and a cold plunge studio, and most of them sit within a short drive of each other. Eastlake and Otay Ranch, the newer neighborhoods in the east of the city, have their own cluster, while the older streets near Third Avenue and Metro Avenue hold several more. National City and Imperial Beach, the neighbors in the South Bay, add a few more places worth knowing.
You can browse every Chula Vista listing on the Chula Vista page. Below, each place is described using only what its own listing says, grouped by what you are likely to be looking for.
Big gyms, CrossFit and group training
TG The Gym Chula Vista opened in November 2020 and is large: 25,000 square feet indoors, 8,000 outdoors, more than six squat racks and more than ten coaches. It serves general members, bodybuilders, independent trainers and small-group clients, and it has a wellness area with cold plunges and saunas.
Extreme Fitness Gym in Eastlake is a 29,000-square-foot performance gym with functional training, strength and conditioning, HIIT classes, Pilates and a Versa Climber. Functional Republic is a smaller functional-fitness gym that offers a five-day trial, so you can try its classes before joining.
CrossFit Chula Vista opened in November 2005, which makes it one of the county's earliest CrossFit affiliates, and it also hosts Pulahan-Derobio Eskrima classes. For HYROX, NXPT Fitness is a HYROX and Spartan DEKA affiliate with weekly HYROX classes and monthly full simulations, plus circuits, bootcamp and a strength-focused PUMP class. RevBody keeps classes to 25 people and runs a HYROX-specific hybrid class alongside HIIT, TRX, barre and kickboxing.
Cycling, Pilates, yoga and barre
Edge Cycle runs 45-minute rhythm rides set to heavy beats, with intervals and dance-inspired movement, and rents cycling shoes. Rotha Training Club blends indoor cycling, functional training and mobility, with a schedule that runs Monday through Saturday, mostly in the morning.
For Pilates, Alora Fitness Chula Vista is a reformer studio on Third Avenue with classes under an hour, and Suva Fitness Studio on Metro Avenue combines heated and non-heated Pilates with strength classes and infrared classes. For yoga, Namaste Fitness Eastlake on Proctor Valley Road offers yoga, meditation and fitness classes plus teacher training. Its listing notes a second Namaste studio serving Otay Ranch.
Boxing and martial arts
These three differ more than their category suggests.
- Bound Boxing is led by owner and coach Juan Medina and trains beginners, fitness clients, amateurs and professional boxers.
- Heritage Jiu Jitsu teaches gi and no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu to kids, teens and adults, with a women's open mat on Fridays.
- Teams MMA teaches MMA, boxing, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling and judo, with classes in English and Spanish and a beginner MMA program.

Personal trainers and private studios
If you would rather not train in a crowd, Chula Vista has three clear options.
- Protrainer Studio is a private one-on-one studio run by a trainer named Ryan, presented as a quiet space for focused strength work.
- San Diego Strength and Wellness is a private facility in Eastlake offering semi-private and one-on-one training, with a focus on strength and athletic performance.
- Elite Conditioning in Otay Ranch has trained clients since 2006, with in-person training, online coaching and contest preparation for physique competitors.

Cold plunge and steam
Tribe Cold Plunge in Eastlake is a veteran-owned studio offering cold plunges, a steam sauna and compression sessions. On the first Saturday of each month it opens complimentary plunges to people who serve their communities, such as service members and first responders.
National City and Imperial Beach
Head a few miles north or west and the South Bay list grows. In National City, Valor Muay Thai Academy teaches Muay Thai, boxing and jiu-jitsu to adults and kids, and Forge MMA offers a free day pass to new visitors. Stews Performance caps its small-group sessions at five people, and Selah Studio is a reformer Pilates studio that opened in July 2026.
In Imperial Beach, IB Fitness is open 24 hours a day and offers child care on site, while South Bay Muscle Gym is a weightlifting and bodybuilding gym that sells one-day and one-week passes. More are on the Imperial Beach page and the National City page.
How to choose
Start with the format, then check the drive. Eastlake and Otay Ranch places are easiest from the east side of the city, and Third Avenue and Metro Avenue suit anyone coming off the 5 or the 805. Try a trial class where one is offered, ask each place what a first visit involves, and ask what membership costs before you commit.
