If you want a women's gym in San Diego County, you have three kinds of place to choose from: private women-only studios where you train by appointment, women-focused strength gyms with small coached groups, and mixed gyms that run a women's class inside a wider schedule. Which one fits depends on how much privacy you want and whether you would rather train alone with a coach or with a few other people.
Women-focused training is spread across the county, with clusters in North County, East County and central San Diego. The listings below are grouped by area, and each description comes from the business's own directory listing. For the full lists, use the personal trainers page and the strength gyms page.
How to tell the types apart
- Women-only private studios are usually small, booked by appointment and run by one trainer or a small team. You get a quiet room and a coach who knows your week.
- Women-focused small-group gyms run set class times with a capped group size, so you get coaching and company at once.
- Women's classes at mixed gyms let you try a sport, such as boxing or jiu-jitsu, in a class with other women before you join the general schedule.
Before you commit, ask for a trial session and ask how big the group will be on the day you would come.

How to choose
Start with the drive, because you will only keep going to a place that is easy to reach. Then decide between private and group. Ask each place what a first visit looks like, how many people are in a typical session and whether you can try one before you sign up. Ask what it costs, too; the listings here do not say.
