If you want to train in Encinitas and Solana Beach, start with the format you want and then pick the town. Encinitas has the longer list: hot yoga and reformer studios along Coast Highway 101, a long-running CrossFit gym, boxing, and several independent trainers. Solana Beach is smaller and leans toward private training studios, small-group classes and a few boutique studios. The two towns sit next to each other in North County Coastal, so a gym in one is usually a short drive from the other.
Both towns are in the directory, so you can browse every listing on the Encinitas page and the Solana Beach page. Below, each place is described using what its own listing says, grouped by what you are likely to be looking for.
Group gyms, CrossFit and strength
CrossFit Counter Culture in Encinitas is an affiliate owned by Zia Rohrbaugh and in business for about fifteen years. Alongside standard CrossFit programming it runs kids' classes and a Masters class for members 55 and older, and it hosts HYROX events.
In Solana Beach, Stratum Fitness was founded in July 2012 and runs coached classes that blend strength training, CrossFit, bodybuilding and endurance work, with typical class sizes of six to twelve people. It also hosts a HYROX training club and offers semi-private training and drop-in sessions.
If you would rather lift, The Compound Lifting Club opened its Solana Beach location in April 2026, its second in the San Diego area. It centers on compound lifts and sled work and adds spin and yoga studios and a sauna.
GFX Fit is a boutique small-group strength and HIIT studio that also offers corporate memberships. Dose Fitness in Encinitas is a spin, strength and yoga studio, and its signature 30/30 class pairs 30 minutes of spin with 30 minutes of strength work.
Boxing and martial arts
Sugar Boxing is a family-owned boxing gym in Encinitas that has operated since 2002. Coaches teach boxing and Muay Thai to beginners, fitness members and competitive fighters, with youth programs alongside the adult classes. Newcomers start with an intro pack before choosing a membership.
Karma Boxing in Solana Beach is a different setup: a boutique gym founded by trainer Danny Han with private and semi-private sessions as well as group classes, and members can use the space around the clock. It positions itself for a select group of adult clients rather than a high-volume crowd.
Personal trainers and private studios
This is where Solana Beach is strongest, and the listings differ more than the names suggest.
- Gemini Fit is a private studio founded by Scott Baker, mostly one-on-one with some small-group work, and it welcomes beginners.
- Milagros Personal Training Center is an appointment-only gym in the Cedros Design District, about three blocks from the beach, where every session is one-on-one.
- SCEND Fitness is an appointment-only studio opened in 2019 that offers one-on-one and semi-private training, nutrition coaching and online programs.
- Cove Strength offers one-on-one and small-group sessions built around strength, mobility and sport performance.
- Duet pairs a 45-minute workout with a 45-minute coaching conversation in a single 90-minute private session.
- The Fitness Studio on Genevieve Street has been run by Brian Knudsen since 2004. Its listing notes that public information is limited, so check its website.
In Encinitas, BodyRefinery is a private and semi-private studio founded in 2001 that offers a complimentary consultation first. Joe Dell Training focuses on speed, strength and agility for athletes from middle school to professional, and takes adults for personal or semi-private sessions. Ageless Fitness Encinitas offers coach-led strength, balance and mobility training for adults roughly 55 and older. Browse the rest on the Encinitas personal trainers page and the Solana Beach personal trainers page.
Pilates, yoga and barre
Encinitas has a deep bench of studios here, and they are easy to tell apart.
BOLD Pilates runs reformer classes capped at nine people under its own BOLD Movement Method. The Grand Pilates is built around its Reformer Flow class and private sessions. Move Madly Lagree Studio runs 45-minute Megaformer classes in a small-group format.
For yoga, GOOD yoga is a hot-yoga studio on Coast Highway 101 with a 105-degree Hot 26+2 class, while The Hot Room runs Bikram and hot vinyasa in two rooms. Yoga Tropics has been on 2nd Street since 2006, and Soul of Yoga has run since 2001 with more than 75 classes a week in person and online. Asteya Collective mixes yoga, barre and bootcamp, with small-group functional strength through Asteya FIT.
In Solana Beach, The Sculpt Room offers reformer and infrared mat Pilates on Highway 101. The Succulent Body on Stevens Avenue runs private sessions and small-group classes on the Reformer and Cadillac. Foundation Yoga & Wellness Center lists gentle hatha, restorative, slow flow and Pilates mat. MB Fit Studio covers aerial and mat yoga, TRX, HIIT, Pilates and barre.
Sauna and cold plunge
Club House Enc on Coast Highway 101 offers fifty-minute self-guided sessions that rotate through a cold plunge, infrared sauna and more. Beach Sauna Express hosts private sessions in a wood-burning sauna at South Ponto Beach. In Solana Beach, Pure Infrared Sauna Studio offers infrared sauna and cold plunge sessions. See more on the Encinitas sauna and cold plunge page.
How to choose between the two towns
Pick by schedule, not by town. Class gyms and yoga studios are easier to compare by trying a first class, so look at start times and class caps on each listing. For private training, ask how sessions are booked and what a first visit includes. Because the towns are neighbors, most people end up choosing whichever place fits their commute.
