If you want to train in Del Mar and Carmel Valley, the short version is this: both are mostly small and boutique. You will find private training rooms, small-group strength classes and Pilates studios far more often than a big-box gym. Del Mar sits on the coast in North County Coastal, with most of its studios along Camino Del Mar and in a few plazas. Carmel Valley is a few minutes inland and part of the City of San Diego, and its trainers often serve both communities.
The two areas overlap, so many listings name both. Browse everything on the Del Mar page and the Carmel Valley page, then use the groups below to decide which format you want first.
Private and one-on-one training
This is the strongest category in Del Mar, and the listings differ in who they are built for.
Fuerza & Co. is a Del Mar business led by owner Matt Barbenza, with coaching in a private gym or virtually. It offers one-on-one sessions, semi-private training, session packages and online coaching. Wheeless Fitness focuses on active men over 40, including golfers, surfers and skiers, with sessions starting at 5 a.m. at a private facility. Kool Body is a by-appointment studio on Camino Del Mar that has been running since 2012, with in-person and online options.
The Movement Engineer covers personal training, sports-performance programming and movement assessments, and has operated under that name since at least 2016. Phases Fitness works with active women over 50, in a private gym in Del Mar and over Zoom. Built By Cassie trains one-on-one or in small groups from the Self Made Training Facility on the border of Carmel Valley and Del Mar Heights.
Over the line in Solana Beach, Milagros Personal Training Center is an appointment-only private gym where every session is one-on-one. Its listing says there are no monthly dues and that packages never expire, and that it draws clients from Del Mar and Carmel Valley. The full list is on the Del Mar personal trainers page.

Group classes and small-group strength
Sweat Circuit is a family-owned, coached small-group strength gym in Del Mar. Its workouts rotate focus every four weeks and include a progression-based lift of the day, with classes scaled for beginners through experienced lifters.
Royal Training Club Del Mar is a Carmel Valley studio with 50-minute strength, Power Pilates and bootcamp classes plus private sessions, and members get access to an infrared sauna. RowVival Fitness Collective is a family-run studio in Flower Hill Promenade whose 50-minute low-impact classes pair rowing machines with mat work.
Kim Kelly Fit mixes plyometrics, HIIT, resistance training, yoga, barre, Pilates and Lagree, and each session is different. Revel Fit Club at Del Mar Highlands Town Center splits its 50-minute classes between treadmills and floor work, with loud music and club-style lighting, so it suits you if you like a high-energy room.
Pilates, Lagree and yoga
Del Mar has a dense cluster of reformer and studio-style classes, and the Del Mar Pilates, yoga and barre page lists them all.
- Pilates of San Diego Del Mar is on Camino Del Mar with Reformer, Mat and Tower group classes plus private and duet sessions, and suggests starting with its Re:form class.
- House of Pilates is a boutique reformer studio near Del Mar and Carmel Valley with four reformers, small-group and private sessions, and a new routine planned every day.

- Yoga Gal teaches adults over 40, outdoors at Carmel Creek Park, at local recreation centers and online, and beginners are welcome.
Martial arts
Del Mar Jiu-Jitsu Club has taught Brazilian jiu-jitsu a few blocks from the beach since 2015. It runs gi and no-gi classes, private lessons and programs for all ages, and its listing says a free first class is offered.
How to choose
Start with the kind of session you want, because that narrows the list quickly. If you want attention on your own plan, pick a private trainer and ask each one how a first session works. If you want company and a set schedule, pick a small-group gym or a Pilates studio and try a class before you commit. Ask what the first visit involves and how you book, since several of these places work by appointment.
Distance is short here. Del Mar and Carmel Valley are a few minutes apart, and Solana Beach is the next town north, so you can try two or three places in one week without much driving.
